An Omaha man, Larry Eugene Burns, was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison on March 11, 2025, for threats made against a federal law enforcement officer. Court documents state that Burns, while on federal supervised release, left a threatening voicemail message for his assigned United States Probation Officer. Once taken into custody, Burns continued to threaten United States Marshal deputies and used racial epithets in the process.

Following the completion of his prison term, Burns will be required to serve a three-year term of supervised release, as parole is not an option in the federal system.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal, representing the Southern District of Iowa, announced the sentencing. The case was investigated by the United States Probation Office and the United States Marshal’s Service.
