A Brazilian national named Matheus Peroba has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for firearm trafficking. The sentencing occurred in Boston, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman. After serving his sentence, Peroba will be subject to deportation proceedings. In late 2024, Peroba admitted guilt to charges of firearm trafficking and unlawfully shipping a firearm via the U.S. mail.
Peroba, aged 21, originally entered the United States illegally around 2019 and lived in Fall River and Braintree, Massachusetts, until 2022 before relocating to Summerville, South Carolina. He was identified as a significant source of firearms trafficked from South Carolina to Massachusetts. The investigation led to the recovery of several firearms and related equipment, including a Glock 26 Gen5 pistol, a Diamondback model DB9 pistol, large capacity magazines, and ammunition.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley, along with James M. Ferguson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, and Ketty Larco-Ward from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. The Milford Police Department provided valuable assistance, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Danial E. Bennett prosecuted the case.
