A 65-year-old man from Sioux City has admitted guilt in a federal methamphetamine distribution case. Timothy Koons entered his plea on April 10, 2025, concerning charges of distributing methamphetamine.
During the plea hearing, Koons acknowledged distributing over 130 grams of pure methamphetamine on two occasions in March 2024. This transaction was made to an individual cooperating with law enforcement. In the past, Koons had been convicted of felony possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in October 2010.
Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand of the United States District Court will schedule a sentencing hearing after a presentence report is completed. Koons is currently held by the United States Marshal as he awaits sentencing. The punishment for his crime includes a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, with a potential maximum of life imprisonment. Koons could also face an $8,000,000 fine and at least eight years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence.
