On April 14, 2025, the New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) announced the launch of an investigation into the death of Brandon Moore. The incident occurred on April 10, 2025, after an encounter involving members of the New York State Police (NYSP) and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).

Initially, NYSP troopers and SCSO officers responded to a 911 call at an apartment complex in Malta, Saratoga County, concerning a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers found a woman leaving the apartment with visible injuries. At 10:30 a.m., Mr. Moore emerged from the apartment reportedly armed with what appeared to be a handgun, which he allegedly pointed at law enforcement officers. Officers from the NYSP and SCSO fired their weapons, striking Mr. Moore. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A pellet gun was recovered at the scene.

According to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, the OSI evaluates any incidents where a police officer or peace officer might have caused a death. This assessment covers situations whether the officer is on-duty or off-duty and regardless of whether the deceased was armed or in custody. If potential involvement is determined, a full investigation is conducted.

The information currently available is described as preliminary and may be subject to change.
