Attorney General Ken Paxton has widened an investigation into EPIC City, associated with the East Plano Islamic Center, by seeking documents from officials in local cities connected to the real estate project.
Requests for records have been issued to city leaders in Plano, Richardson, and Wylie. These actions follow claims made by Yasir Qadhi, who is affiliated with EPIC City, asserting that there is backing from local officials. The probe scrutinizes potential breaches of Texas law linked to this development. Officials in Josephine, Texas, have also received a records request.
The objective is to collect correspondence between city officials and representatives of EPIC, EPIC City, and Community Capital Partners, LP. This includes acquiring other information regarding the development. Previously, Attorney General Paxton issued a Civil Investigative Demand to further the investigation.
“If any local official is supporting or communicating with a real estate development that is under investigation for potential violations of state law, then it’s imperative that we are made aware of exactly what’s being communicated,” said Attorney General Paxton. “We will thoroughly review these documents as part of our ongoing investigation into EPIC City and work to hold accountable anyone who breaks Texas law.”
