A Salvadoran national, Arsenio Valladares, 44, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for reentering the United States unlawfully after deportation. According to the indictment, Valladares was deported from the U.S. on or about April 23, 2008, and is alleged to have later reentered the country without permission.

Prior to his deportation, Valladares had been convicted of several offenses including assault and battery with a deadly weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, and malicious destruction of property, among others. In November 2024, federal immigration authorities discovered Valladares' presence in the U.S. after his fingerprints were taken in connection with criminal charges in Massachusetts. He was subsequently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on March 18, 2025.

The charge of unlawful reentry carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. After any imposed sentence, Valladares faces deportation. Sentences are issued by a federal district court judge and are based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement of this indictment was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia Benjamin.

"The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
