A Hadley man, Jacob D. Miller, 43, has been charged with unlawful possession of ammunition and firearms. The charges follow his arrest and initial appearance in federal court in Springfield, Massachusetts, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Katherine A. Robertson. Miller, who was released on certain conditions, faces potential penalties of up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine reaching $250,000, according to federal sentencing guidelines and statutes.

Court documents reveal Miller’s previous felony convictions from February 9, 2004, involving possession of child pornography and explosive devices in separate Hampshire Superior Court cases. The discovery of approximately 50 rounds of ammunition and six firearms in his residence on April 8, 2025, led to the current charges.

Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) expressed serious public safety concerns regarding potential hazards at Miller's home. According to the court hearing, MassDEP urges a comprehensive evaluation and removal of hazardous substances, emphasizing risks from accidental releases or fires.

The announcement of the charges was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Division, with significant support from the Hadley Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow is handling the prosecution.

Authorities remind the public that the accusations are presently allegations, with Miller presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
