A Guatemalan national has entered a guilty plea in a federal court in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States following deportation. Domingo Valentin Solis-De Leon, aged 29, acknowledged guilt to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. This case was overseen by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, who has scheduled sentencing for June 10, 2025. The indictment was decided by a federal grand jury in February 2025.
Initially detained by United States Border Patrol near Hidalgo, Texas on January 8, 2014, Solis-De Leon had entered the U.S. illegally. Following his arrest, he was removed and returned to Guatemala. In a later incident, on January 6, 2024, Solis-De Leon was found to be in the United States when arrested by the Lynn Police Department. Court documents state this arrest was due to state charges of assault and battery on a family or household member, a matter that remains under consideration in Lynn District Court. After his release from state custody, immigration authorities apprehended him on January 28, 2025, in Lynn, Massachusetts.
The offense of unlawful reentry of a deported alien carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a substantial fine reaching $250,000. Solis-De Leon will face deportation once any sentence is fulfilled. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge guided by the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and applicable statutes.
This announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm representing the Major Crimes Unit.
