The North Dakota Department of Transportation is seeking a temporary hearing officer based in Fargo, ND, with a focus on administrative hearings related to driver licenses and vehicle division issues. The position, paying $41.40 an hour, offers up to 40 hours of work per week and is classified as temporary.

"This position qualifies for remote work with in-person training and travel to in-person hearings in Eastern North Dakota as required," according to the department. Job functions will include conducting fair and timely hearings on matters within NDDOT's jurisdiction, particularly concerning the suspension or revocation of driving privileges in DUI cases. Additionally, the officer will write decisions, handle inquiries from the public and other entities, and ensure the accuracy of hearing transcripts.

Candidates must hold a Juris Doctorate degree and be licensed to practice law in North Dakota or expect imminent admission to the state bar. The role is contingent on successfully passing an interview, a background check, and a reference check.

"Far and away the best prize life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing," the department quotes Theodore Roosevelt, highlighting the ethos of Team North Dakota, a group comprising over 7,500 employees dedicated to state service.

Applications are accepted online until April 16, 2025, with materials needing to outline how candidates meet qualifications and job duties. The application process includes a 100-point questionnaire. For any inquiries or application assistance, applicants can contact Lynn Spomer or use TTY services.
