Chief Justice Recktenwald mourns passing of State Rep. Gene Ward

State Representative Gene Ward has passed away, announced Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald. Expressing his condolences, Chief Justice Recktenwald stated, "It is with a heavy heart that I learned of the passing of State Rep. Gene Ward. He was a true public servant, who never stopped finding ways to contribute to his community."

Ward had recently taken an oath of office administered by Chief Justice Recktenwald, who described him as being "characteristically upbeat and excited about continuing to serve his constituents." Over the years, Ward collaborated with the judiciary on justice system issues. His contributions extended internationally, particularly in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Chief Justice Recktenwald noted, "His legacy of work extends beyond our shores, where he assisted with issues of global concern, and will be remembered for his significant efforts in Southeast Asia and the Pacific." He added, "The Judiciary ʻohana is grateful to Rep. Ward for a lifetime of distinguished service. I extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by his life and work."

Ward's passing is a loss to many in the judiciary and beyond, who have been impacted by his service and leadership.
