An individual was sentenced to two years and six months in a federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after previous deportations. This development was announced by U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, Special Agent in Charge Rana Saoud of Homeland Security Investigations Nashville, and Sam Olson, Field Office Director, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

David Lopez-Guillen, a 48-year-old citizen of Mexico, was sentenced not only to prison but also to a subsequent three-year term of supervised release. According to court documents, Lopez-Guillen reentered the country despite being denied admission, excluded, deported, and removed three times before—specifically on January 19, 2001, April 25, 2005, and August 31, 2020. This marks his second conviction for illegal reentry in the Western District of Kentucky.

There is no parole in the federal system, highlighting the seriousness of his sentence. The case was jointly investigated by Homeland Security Investigations Bowling Green and ICE ERO.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark J. Yurchisin II from the U.S. Attorney’s Bowling Green Branch Office prosecuted the case. The case falls under the umbrella of Operation Take Back America. This initiative employs the Department of Justice's resources to repel illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime. Efforts from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood are streamlined through this initiative.
