Dangelo Maurice Windham, a 26-year-old Oklahoma City resident, has received an 84-month federal prison sentence for firearm possession linked to drug trafficking and illegal possession following a felony conviction. The announcement came from U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
The case began when a federal Grand Jury indicted Windham on May 21, 2024, with four charges including possession with intent to distribute cocaine base, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. These charges arose from two incidents in 2023 involving law enforcement. On March 8, 2023, an Oklahoma City Police Department officer attempted to stop Windham for a traffic violation. Windham fled, abandoning a vehicle containing a distribution quantity of crack cocaine and discarding a backpack with a firearm before his capture. Later, on December 23, 2023, another firearm was found with Windham during a traffic stop.
Windham, on October 7, 2024, plead guilty to possessing a firearm in the course of a drug-trafficking crime and to possessing a firearm despite having a felony record.
Presiding over the sentencing on March 25, 2025, U.S. District Judge Patrick R. Wyrick highlighted the sentence's purpose to deter future offenses and uphold legal respect. The court acknowledged Windham's criminal record, which includes previous felony convictions and repeat firearm-related offenses. He was earlier convicted for attempted third-degree burglary in Oklahoma County District Court, case CF-2019-1635.
The conviction comes after an investigation involving the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Oklahoma City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Danielle M. Connolly prosecuted the case.
