A Guatemalan citizen has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus reported that Oseas Froilan Gomez-Tebalan, 30, was sentenced by United States District Judge Jennifer P. Wilson. This decision comes after Gomez-Tebalan was previously removed from the country on March 18, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona, following a conviction in California for assault with a deadly weapon.
Gomez-Tebalan was found once again in the United States without legal permission. His case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative addressing illegal immigration and crime. The aim is to stop illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations to protect communities from violent crime. The initiative aligns with efforts from the Department’s Project Safe Neighborhood.
The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations conducted the investigation in this case. Assistant United States Attorney K. Wesley Mishoe was responsible for prosecuting the case.
