Rebecca Leann Hughes and Nathanial Louis Hughes, residents of Calera, Oklahoma, admitted guilt to charges related to an illegal firearms purchase scheme. The duo entered their pleas in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Rebecca Hughes, 33, acknowledged her involvement in a conspiracy to acquire firearms from a licensed dealer using false and fictitious statements. This offense carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Nathanial Hughes, 31, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms, which could result in a maximum penalty of 15 years of incarceration and a $250,000 fine.

The indictment outlined that between June 26 and July 21, 2024, Rebecca Hughes took part in a plot to illegally obtain firearms. She reportedly indicated she was the actual buyer when filling out ATF Form 4473, although she was purchasing the weapons for her husband, knowing his status as a convicted felon.

Furthermore, the indictment stated that on July 21, 2024, Nathanial Hughes was found with multiple firearms despite his prior convictions forbidding such possession.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted the pleas and called for a presentence investigation report. Both Rebecca and Nathanial Hughes have been released on bond as they await sentencing, which will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael E. Robinson is representing the government in this case.
