Julius Augillard, a 39-year-old resident of New Orleans, has been sentenced for firearm possession. After pleading guilty to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, Augillard received a sentence on March 27, 2025, of 70 months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release and a $100 mandatory assessment fee for each count, as confirmed by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.
Court documents state that Augillard held a firearm on February 20, 2023, during Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street. Louisiana State Troopers pursued him, leading to his capture and the discovery of a Smith and Wesson Model SD40VE, .40 caliber pistol. Additionally, Augillard was found with an International Model PT609 PRO, nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistol while trespassing on December 31, 2023, at an apartment complex on Tremé Street. He was apprehended by officers from the Housing Authority of New Orleans.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson acknowledged the contributions of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Louisiana State Police in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit handled the prosecution.
This sentencing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that aims to decrease violent crime and gun violence. Launched by the Department on May 26, 2021, the program focuses on building community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, prioritizing law enforcement, and measuring outcomes.
