Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has confirmed that Sehrelina Tardo, a 36-year-old resident of Tallahassee, Florida, pleaded guilty to wire fraud on March 26, 2025. The case involves an embezzlement scheme connected to her former employment as a senior accountant at a car dealership in New Orleans.
Court documents reveal that from November 2018 to May 2023, Tardo appropriated customer cash down payments and deposits for personal use. She concealed this activity by generating fraudulent journal entries in the dealership's financial records. As part of a plea agreement, she has consented to repay $535,750.77 to her previous employer.
Sentencing has been scheduled by Judge Jane Triche Milazzo for June 25, 2025. Tardo's potential penalties include up to 20 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, she may face a fine of up to $250,000 along with a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their contribution to the case. The prosecution is being managed by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas D. Moses, who holds positions as Healthcare Fraud Coordinator and a member of the Financial Crimes Unit.
