Robert Andrew Cooper, a 68-year-old resident of Washington D.C., was taken into custody on allegations of making death threats towards a federal official and an officer from the Metropolitan Police Department. According to the indictment, the threats were communicated via phone calls in December 2024.
The arrest and charges were publicly announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr., along with Sean Ryan, the FBI Special Agent in Charge at the Washington Field Office Criminal and Cyber Division, and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Cooper has been charged with two counts related to interstate communications involving threats to kidnap or injure. His initial court appearance is scheduled for today at 1:30 p.m.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation of this case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan Horan handling the prosecution. It is essential to note that an indictment is a formal accusation and does not equate to guilt. Each defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court setting.
