Norman Wesley Parker, a resident of Minneapolis, entered a guilty plea to the charge of illegal possession of firearms as a felon, according to an announcement by Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick.
Court documents detail an incident on March 10, 2023, when officers from the Minneapolis Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle in which 37-year-old Parker was a passenger. The driver fled from the police but eventually crashed the vehicle. At the crash site, officers found Parker with a loaded .40 caliber Smith and Wesson SD40VE semi-automatic pistol.
Parker, who has a history of prior felony convictions related to domestic assault, aggravated robbery, and offenses involving substances and firearms, is prohibited under federal law from owning firearms or ammunition.
In the plea agreement, Parker also confessed to possessing a Keltec Model PMR-30 .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol and a Glock 21 .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol in 2024.
Parker admitted guilt in the U.S. District Court to a single count of illegal possession of a firearm as a felon. The plea was submitted before Judge Michael J. Davis, and a sentencing hearing will be determined later.
The case results from a collaborative investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Minneapolis Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney David P. Steinkamp handling the prosecution.
