The annual High School Mock Trial Competition organized by the State Bar Association of North Dakota (SBAND) concluded on March 22, 2025, showcasing the legal aptitude of students from various high schools across the state. Participants from Alexander High School, Oak Grove Lutheran High School, Sheyenne High School (two teams), and Stanley High School engaged in the event, demonstrating their understanding of America's legal system.

A team of judges, including Rebecca Altman, Justice Douglas Bahr, Justin Balzer, Trent Barkus, Brooke Benson, and several others, contributed their expertise to the competition both as Presiding Judges and Scoring Judges.

The SBAND High School Mock Trial Program, aimed at educating students about the legal system, focuses on fostering personal growth and important skills such as communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. During the event, students had the chance to collaborate with experienced attorneys and judges, gaining firsthand insight into trial processes and legal principles.

The competition concluded with the Alexander High School team taking first place, coached by Judge Daniel El-Dweek and teacher Amber Severson. The second place was awarded to Oak Grove Lutheran School, while the Sheyenne High School Mock Trial Club secured third place. Individual acknowledgments in categories of Best Attorney and Best Witness were made, including recognitions for exceptional court artistry by Vivian Lundeen from Alexander High School.

The top team from Alexander High School is set to participate in the 2025 National Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, from May 7 to May 10, 2025, with support from the North Dakota Bar Foundation. Tony Weiler, President of SBAND, presented the trophies to the winners.
