In a federal court in Boston, Marcos Haro, a resident of Sacramento, California, admitted guilt on charges related to the trafficking and conspiracy to traffic significant amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl. The charges include one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 40 grams or more of fentanyl, plus two counts of distribution and possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, as well as aiding and abetting the distribution of fentanyl.
U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young has set the sentencing of Marcos Haro for June 25, 2025. His brother, Noel Haro, was also indicted with him in April 2023. Noel Haro is recognized as a leader within the "Border Brothers" gang, which operates in Arizona and Mexico. He is currently serving a life sentence in Massachusetts for various charges, including drug distribution.
The investigation into the Haro brothers began in April 2019, focusing on Noel Haro's plans to smuggle drugs to Massachusetts. Evidence from recorded inmate calls revealed his efforts to use friends and family to move narcotics. These calls suggested that Marcos Haro was facilitating drug deals outside of prison.
In June 2022, Marcos Haro supplied narcotics concealed in a package to a cooperating witness, leading investigators to retrieve additional packages across the following months, revealing large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl. October 2022 communications between the brothers arranged the sale of 2,000 fentanyl pills, which were shipped and seized by investigators.
Marcos Haro was arrested in Sacramento in April 2023, during a stop where authorities found a 9mm handgun and suspected fentanyl in his vehicle. His criminal record includes a 2016 conviction for possession of a controlled substance while armed.
The charges Marcos Haro faces could lead to a minimum of 10 years to life in prison, alongside significant fines and supervised release. Noel Haro's sentencing is set for June 5, 2025.
