Attorney General Ken Paxton has moved forward with an appeal following a federal court's decision to halt the enforcement of a ban on drag shows by the Texas A&M Board of Regents. The Texas A&M Queer Empowerment Council brought the lawsuit that led to the temporary injunction against the ban. Paxton is seeking to overturn this decision to maintain the ban while the legal proceedings continue.
Paxton is also involved in two related cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, opposing explicit drag shows. He is defending West Texas A&M University in the case of Spectrum WT v. Wendler and upholding Texas law in the matter of The Woodlands Pride, Inc. v. Paxton.
"President Trump’s executive order stopping federal funds from being used to promote gender ideology was crystal clear, and the Board’s ban on obscene drag shows is in lawful accordance with that order," stated Paxton. He elaborated that the Constitution does not mandate Texas colleges and universities to foster what he termed as offensive and lewd behavior. "These filings aim to ensure that our educational institutions are focused solely on promoting academics, not a woke agenda, while this case continues."
