Baltimore, Maryland – A man from Baltimore has received a 54-month federal prison sentence for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a prohibited person. U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Maddox delivered the sentence to Robert Jackson, 39, followed by three years of supervised release.
Kelly O. Hayes, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, announced the sentence alongside Special Agent in Charge Toni M. Crosby from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
The incident leading to Jackson's conviction occurred on January 26, 2024. A Citi Watch Camera captured a hand-to-hand gun exchange on Milton Avenue. A Baltimore City Police Department detective observed Jackson and co-defendant, Derek Harvey, involved in the transaction. The detective saw Jackson remove a handgun from his hoodie and pass it to Harvey, who then concealed the weapon in his waistband. Both men were taken into custody following the exchange, and the firearm and ammunition were confiscated. Their possession of the weapon was illegal due to prior convictions.
Harvey, who pled guilty earlier, awaits sentencing on May 8, 2025.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aiming to reduce violent crime and gun violence while enhancing community safety. The program implements a strategy focusing on building trust and legitimacy within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
U.S. Attorney Hayes expressed gratitude to the ATF and BPD for their role in the investigation. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Kertisha Dixon was also acknowledged for prosecuting the case.
