Darrell Emery Loud, a resident of Red Lake, has been indicted for illegally possessing a firearm due to his status as a convicted felon, according to an announcement made by Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick.
Court documents reveal that Loud, aged 42, was found with a Remington Model 870 Express 20-gauge shotgun on September 12, 2024. Loud's previous felony convictions, including DWI, domestic assault, and fleeing from a peace officer in Beltrami County, legally prohibit him from owning firearms or ammunition.
Loud faces a single charge of illegal possession of a firearm as a felon. His arraignment is set for April 2, 2025, with Magistrate Judge Leo I. Brisbois presiding at the U.S. District Court.
“The safety and security of Red Lake Nation is of the upmost importance to my office,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Kirkpatrick, emphasizing the collaborative efforts with the Red Lake Police Department and federal partners to address violence on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, alongside the Red Lake Police Department, conducted the investigation leading to the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren O. Roso is handling the prosecution.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely a formal charge, and Darrell Emery Loud is assumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
