A Louisville man has been sentenced to over 16 years in federal prison for firearms offenses. Hassan Mohamed, 20, received a sentence of 16 years and 3 months, followed by 5 years of supervised release, for illegally possessing three firearms, including an unregistered short-barrelled rifle. This follows his previous felony convictions.
The sentencing announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky and Special Agent in Charge John Nokes of the ATF Louisville Field Division.
According to court documents, Mohamed was convicted in Jefferson Circuit Court on multiple charges. On April 23, 2019, he was found guilty of complicity to robbery in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, complicity to assault in the first degree, and tampering with physical evidence. On January 4, 2022, he was also convicted of robbery, rape, sodomy, and criminal attempt rape, all in the first degree.
"There is no parole in the federal system," noted the officials.
The case was investigated by the ATF with support from the Louisville Metro Police Department, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emily Lantz and Josh Porter.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), under Operation Take Back America. This national initiative utilizes the full resources of the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration and criminal organizations, aiming to protect communities from violent crime.
