Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced that the Mississippi Attorney General's Office will be assisting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Section 287(g) program.

Together, we will make Mississippi- and our entirenation- safer than ever before.
"The 287(g) Task Force program allows state and local law enforcement entitiesto partner with ICE for delegated immigration enforcement to enhance public safety by identifying aliens, lodging immigration detainers, and initiatingremoval proceedings by issuing charging documents on potentially deportablecriminal aliens booked into the jail facility.The Attorney General's Office is the only agency in Mississippi currently participating in the program by training and certifying all of its sworn lawenforcement officers as members of the 287(g) Task Force.
The Mississippi Attorney General's Office is the third Attorney General’s Office in the country to sign the memorandum of agreement.Attorney General Fitch has invited ICE officials to present at the 3rd AnnualMississippi Public Safety Summit and the Spring Prosecutors Conference. OtherMississippi law enforcement agencies are encouraged to participate and learnmore about the program.
