Maurice Felder, a 53-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been indicted on charges related to a stabbing incident that occurred on November 10, 2024. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
The indictment was issued by a grand jury in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Felder faces several charges including assault with intent to kill while armed, aggravated assault while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with significant bodily injury while armed, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Felder is scheduled for arraignment on March 28, 2025, before Judge Judith Pipe.
According to evidence presented by the government, the incident took place around 1:00 a.m. near the intersection of 7th Street N.W. and T Street N.W. The victim and his friends were visiting Washington, D.C., from Pennsylvania when they encountered Felder. A verbal altercation ensued between Felder and the group. The victim intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the situation when Felder allegedly asked him if he wanted to die before stabbing him in the chest. The victim sustained injuries close to his heart requiring urgent medical attention.
Felder was apprehended shortly after the incident approximately one block away from where it occurred. At the time of his arrest, he matched descriptions provided for the suspect involved in the stabbing and was found with a knife in his pants pocket. He has remained in custody since his arrest.
The case is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Valerie Tsesarenko from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
