A Colombian national has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Salt Lake City for alleged drug, firearm, and immigration offenses. This follows the seizure of approximately 10,000 fentanyl pills and a firearm during a search warrant execution.

David Estiven Alvear Carcamo, 20, from Kearns, Utah, was initially charged on March 5, 2025. Court documents reveal that the investigation began in January 2025 by the Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force into a suspected drug trafficking organization distributing narcotics in Utah. On March 4, agents executed search warrants at a residence in Sandy and on Carcamo's vehicle. Carcamo was the sole occupant and registered owner of the vehicle where agents found around 10,000 fentanyl pills weighing 2.35 pounds and a handgun.

Carcamo faces charges of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute and alien possession of a firearm and ammunition. His initial court appearance is scheduled for March 20, 2025, at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.

Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti for the District of Utah announced the indictment. The case is being investigated by the Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force, comprising the FBI and Davis Metro Narcotic Strike Force. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah will prosecute.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to counter illegal immigration and dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators. It utilizes resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

An indictment remains an allegation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
