A Honduran national, Alvaro Luis Alcerro-Banegas, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for reentering the United States after being deported. The sentencing took place on March 18, 2025, and was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Brandon S. Long.

Court documents reveal that Alcerro-Banegas reentered the country following his previous deportation on September 2, 2022. His presence came to the attention of Immigration and Customs Enforcement after an arrest by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office on March 2, 2024. This is not his first offense; he was previously found guilty of illegal re-entry after deportation on January 18, 2017, by the United States District Court in the Southern District of Florida and served an 18-month federal prison sentence.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended both the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for their roles in investigating this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K.D. Guice, Jr., from the General Crimes Unit, is leading the prosecution.
