A Honduran national, Alex Salomon Reyes-Chavez, aged 45, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for re-entering the United States after deportation. The sentencing took place on March 12, 2025, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. United States District Court Judge Sarah D. Vance presided over the case.

Reyes-Chavez had previously been deported from the United States on March 5, 2012. He was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana on June 30, 2023, facing charges of theft and illegal possession of stolen items. On October 24, 2023, federal authorities apprehended him in Gretna, Louisiana as he exited a courthouse.

This is not Reyes-Chavez's first encounter with law enforcement regarding illegal re-entry into the United States; he has been removed two or more times before. His criminal record includes a four-year sentence handed down on July 14, 2010, in Bexar County, Texas for possession of heroin under Texas State Law. Additionally, he was convicted of third-degree grand theft on April 27, 2007, and served nearly six months in jail in Miami, Florida.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their investigation into this case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K.D. Guice Jr., from the General Crimes Unit.
