JESUS FLORES, a 42-year-old resident of Oklahoma County, has been sentenced to 92 months in federal prison for illegal firearm possession following a previous felony conviction. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
The incident that led to Flores's arrest occurred on May 30, 2024. Officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to an assault report where it was discovered that Flores had pursued and shot a driver who had cut him off on the highway. Despite being shot in the head, the victim survived. Authorities later found two firearms in a diaper bag belonging to Flores’s child. Subsequently, on September 5, 2024, Flores was charged by a federal Grand Jury with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Flores's criminal history includes previous felony charges in California Superior Court for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and inflicting corporal injury on an intimate partner. On December 17, 2024, he pleaded guilty to possessing two firearms despite his record.
U.S. District Judge David L. Russell delivered the sentence on March 17, 2025, adding three years of supervised release post-incarceration. Judge Russell emphasized public safety as a key factor in his decision.
The case resulted from an investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Oklahoma City Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacquelyn M. Hutzell.
This prosecution is part of "Operation 922" and "Shots Fired," initiatives under Project Safe Neighborhoods aimed at reducing gun violence and enforcing federal firearms laws. These operations focus on prosecuting federal firearms violations linked to domestic violence and incidents involving discharged firearms during criminal activities.
