A New Britain man, Eddie Limas, 35, has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl. Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Marc H. Silverman, announced the sentence delivered by U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford. Following his imprisonment, Limas will undergo five years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that in 2022, the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force received intelligence indicating that Limas and associates were importing kilogram quantities of fentanyl from the Dominican Republic. The drugs were stored at a stash house in the Bronx, New York, and distributed across central Connecticut. Investigators conducted five controlled purchases of fentanyl from Limas between January and April 2022.
On May 13, 2022, Hector Limas was stopped by Connecticut State Police on I-84 in Danbury after allegedly delivering narcotics to Eddie Limas' residence in New Britain. The vehicle search uncovered approximately 700 grams of fentanyl and $19,000 in cash.
That same day, law enforcement attempted to arrest Eddie Limas in Hartford; however, he evaded capture after crashing into a police cruiser and fleeing at high speed. Surveillance observed a neighbor removing items from Limas’ residence and handing them to Carmen Hernandez. A subsequent search revealed over two kilograms of fentanyl among other narcotics and firearms.
Eddie Limas remained at large until his arrest on May 9, 2023, following further drug sales activities. He has been detained since then and pleaded guilty on September 18, 2024.
Hector Limas and Carmen Hernandez have also pleaded guilty to related charges. Hector was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years on November 8, 2023, while Hernandez received a two-year sentence on January 14, 2025.
The investigation involved multiple agencies including the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force and various local police departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Reed Durham prosecuted the case.
