Fargo attorney Joe A. Johnson passes away at age 66

Joe A. Johnson, a resident of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 66 on March 13, 2025. His death was attributed to an underlying health condition. Born on July 14, 1958, in Fargo to Jack and Viola Johnson, Joe was the youngest among four siblings. His sisters are Julie (Stan), Vickey (Steve), and Holly (Leroy). The family had roots in Buffalo, ND.

In 1974, Joe moved with his parents to Pelican Rapids, MN where he completed high school in 1977. He maintained friendships with many classmates from that time. Over the years, Joe worked various jobs including traveling harvest crews and meat packing before becoming a lineman working on powerlines in North Dakota and Montana. After surviving a serious accident in 1982 while working as a lineman, he pursued higher education at Minnesota State University – Moorhead and later attended law school at the University of North Dakota.

Upon earning his law degree, Joe began his career as a defense attorney in private practice based in Fargo. Known for his fairness and dedication to clients' representation needs, he built a reputation for integrity within the legal community.

In Fargo, Joe met Marianne Gooselaw whom he married in 1986. Together they raised two sons—Jack and Sam—in North Fargo where they created a loving home environment. Joe took pride in instilling strong work ethics into his sons whom he considered his greatest achievement.

A lover of reading and conversation across diverse topics, Joe was known for engaging discussions facilitated by his listening skills and empathy towards others' circumstances. His trustworthiness made him cherished by friends who knew they could rely on him under any circumstance.

Joe is survived by his wife Marianne; sons Jack; Sam along with daughter-in-law Nicole; granddaughter Vienna; and another grandchild expected soon. His passing leaves behind family members who will miss him dearly each day.
