Kevin Kaedi, a 27-year-old from Florida, was sentenced in Omaha's federal court for the malicious use of explosive materials. Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen announced that Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down a sentence of 60 months' imprisonment to Kaedi on March 14, 2025. After serving his prison term, Kaedi will undergo three years of supervised release as there is no parole in the federal system.
The case stems from an incident on March 31, 2024, when a semi-truck owned by Prime Inc., a Missouri-based trucking company, was set on fire at Eppley Airfield in Omaha. Prior to the incident, on March 25, Kaedi disconnected his semi-truck’s tracking device and parked it at Eppley's south cell phone parking lot.
Surveillance footage showed Kaedi entering Eppley Airfield terminal to rent a vehicle. He then returned to the semi-truck to transfer items into the rental car before driving away. Shortly after his departure, smoke emerged from the semi-truck. Firefighters responded promptly and extinguished the blaze.
Investigators discovered evidence of arson within the truck cab: a red plastic gas container and an incendiary device were found inside. The damage amounted to $59,353.63 in losses for which Kaedi must pay restitution.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with Omaha's Fire Investigation Unit conducted the investigation leading to these charges.
