A Marshalltown woman has admitted to charges related to the misuse of controlled substances. Amanda Nicole Manatt, aged 37, confessed to diverting drugs for personal use and falsifying patient records.

Court documents reveal that Manatt worked as a registered nurse at hospitals in Marshall County in 2023 and Story County in 2024. During her tenure, she acquired drugs meant for patients, including fentanyl and hydromorphone (Dilaudid), for her own consumption. Additionally, she falsified documentation regarding drug administration in patient records.

Manatt's sentencing is set for July 11, 2025. She could face up to five years in prison. The sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge based on United States sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the plea. The case was investigated by the Iowa Department of Inspections & Appeals – Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (DIA/MFCU), the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau.
