Attorney General Kris Mayes, along with a coalition of seven attorneys general, has expressed support for efforts in the U.S. Senate to block a continuing resolution (CR) passed by the House. The group is advocating for a clean, short-term CR that would allow more debate on important issues related to the passage of a longer-term resolution.

The joint statement from the attorneys general highlights concerns about actions taken by the Trump administration in recent months. They argue that these actions have overstepped constitutional boundaries and threaten essential services and funding for public safety, veterans, and disease research.

The coalition criticizes the House-passed CR for potentially exacerbating these issues by cutting crucial funding and creating slush funds for the administration. They claim this could undermine Congress' financial authority and concentrate power within the executive branch.

"The judiciary has played an important role in checking many of the Trump administration’s egregious violations of the law and the Constitution," states the coalition. However, they emphasize that ongoing damage necessitates immediate action to restore constitutional governance and vital community programs.

Joining Attorney General Mayes in this initiative are her counterparts from Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
