Attorney General Kris Mayes announced that Jovanny Algandar was sentenced to 2.5 years prison followed by 3 years of probation in Maricopa County Superior Court on March 11, 2025. He was also ordered to pay $4,500 to the State Anti-Racketeering Revolving Fund. Algandar pled guilty to two counts of Attempting to Sell a Narcotic Drug, a class 3 felony.
The Co-Defendant, Lauro Garcia Salmon, was sentenced in Maricopa County Superior Court on December 19, 2024 to 3.5 years prison. He was also ordered to pay $4,500 to the State Anti-Racketeering Revolving Fund. He pled to Attempt to Sell a Narcotic Drug for Sale, a class 3 felony, and Illegally Conducting an Enterprise, a class 3 felony.
“Fentanyl is devastating Arizona communities, and those who attempt to profit from this deadly drug will be held accountable,” said Attorney General Mayes. “My office will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle drug trafficking organizations that ship fentanyl to our communities. Let this serve as a warning—if you deal fentanyl in Arizona, we will find you, prosecute you, and bring you to justice.”
On April 3, 2024 and April 8, 2024, in Maricopa County, Arizona, Algandar attempted to knowingly sell approximately 2.45 pounds of fentanyl pills to a third party.
On May 8, 2024, in Maricopa County, Arizona, Salmon attempted to knowingly sell approximately 12.1 pounds of fentanyl pills to a third party. Between April 1, 2024 and May 8, 2024, Salmon was employed by an enterprise and knowingly conducted the enterprise’s affairs through racketeering. That is, he transported fentanyl pills to a third party for sale in exchange for drug proceeds.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety investigated this case and Assistant Attorney General Sabrina Lochner prosecuted the case.
