A New Orleans resident has been charged with possession of files depicting the sexual exploitation of children under the age of twelve. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Ervin Dalvecchio Cooper, 23, was charged on February 27, 2025, by a bill of information in violation of federal law.
Cooper could face up to twenty years in prison if convicted. Additionally, he may be subject to lifetime supervised release, a fine up to $250,000, and registration as a sex offender. A mandatory special assessment fee of $100 is also applicable.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson emphasized that "a bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt."
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to improve coordination among federal, state, and local resources for locating and prosecuting offenders while rescuing victims.
U.S. Attorney Evans commended the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation for its work on this case. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg is leading the prosecution efforts.
