Colombian national charged with narco-terrorism in superseding indictment

Attorneys & Judges

Geovany Andres Rojas, known as Araña, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of narco-terrorism. This new charge is in addition to an earlier indictment for international conspiracy to distribute cocaine. The United States alleges that Rojas, operating from Colombia and Ecuador, intended for the cocaine to be unlawfully imported into the United States.

The narco-terrorism charge accuses Rojas of knowingly providing material support to individuals and organizations involved in terrorist activities. This case forms part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force Initiative, which involves multi-agency task force teams working together to combat significant drug traffickers and transnational criminal organizations.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kyle B. Martin and Ashley E. Goff are prosecuting the case. It is important to note that charges in an indictment are accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Rojas faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years up to life imprisonment for the conspiracy charge, while the narco-terrorism charge carries a mandatory minimum of 20 years up to life imprisonment.

The investigation involves agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
