Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney has announced the indictment of Juan Jose Ugalde-Monroy, a 33-year-old Mexican national, on charges of illegal reentry into the United States after deportation. If found guilty, Ugalde-Monroy could face up to two years in federal prison.
Court documents reveal that Ugalde-Monroy was previously deported from the United States on January 11 and January 15, 2017. On February 14, 2025, he was arrested by Osceola County authorities for not having a valid driver's license, introducing drugs into a controlled facility, and possession of cocaine. He has not obtained permission from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to seek readmission to the United States.
It is important to note that an indictment is a formal accusation of federal criminal law violations and does not imply guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Assistant United States Attorney Kaley Austin-Aronson will be leading the prosecution.
