Montgomery, Ala. – Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson announced the sentencing of Arthur Varcea Colvin from Montgomery, Alabama, following his convictions on federal drug and gun charges. On March 4, 2025, the 23-year-old received a sentence of 96 months in prison. After serving his prison term, Colvin will be subject to three years of supervised release. It is important to note that there is no parole in the federal system.

According to court records and the indictment, on February 1, 2023, officers from the Montgomery Police Department stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle's occupants included Colvin in the front passenger seat, Le’Anthony Washington as the driver, and another passenger in the rear seat. Officers suspected illegal narcotics were present and asked all occupants to exit the vehicle. During their search, law enforcement discovered three firearms: a .40 caliber handgun under the driver's seat, an AR-15 pistol under the front passenger's seat, and a 9mm handgun on the back floorboard. They also found over 400 grams of marijuana in the trunk and a handgun along with a small amount of marijuana on Colvin.

On October 28, 2024, Colvin pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Washington has a previous felony conviction prohibiting him from possessing firearms or ammunition. In October last year, he pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison on January 31, 2025.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) alongside the Montgomery Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Michelle R. Turner prosecuted this case.
