The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation has announced charges against three individuals in Waukesha County for allegedly rolling back vehicle odometers. Marvin Reed Trotter, 53, Nycole Cavins, 55, and Marvel S. Trotter, 27, all from Brookfield, Wisconsin, are facing charges of Theft—False Representation Party to a Crime.

Attorney General Josh Kaul commented on the case: “Deceptive practices like those alleged in this case are unacceptable. Thank you to those involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case.”

According to the criminal complaint, investigators found 70 vehicles linked to the defendants with odometer discrepancies. An estimated total of 4.5 million miles were allegedly removed from these vehicles' odometers. The accused own an autobody shop in Butler, Wisconsin. They reportedly purchased vehicles needing repairs on Facebook Marketplace, rolled back their odometers, altered titles to reflect false mileage readings, and resold them at higher prices.

It is important to note that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

A preliminary hearing for Marvin Trotter and Nycole Cavins is set for April 14, 2025.

The investigation was conducted by DCI and the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution.
