California DOJ investigates Mammoth Lakes police shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Mammoth Lakes, California. The incident occurred on March 4, 2025, at around noon and resulted in the death of one individual. Officers from the Mammoth Lakes Police Department were involved.

The investigation is being conducted under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates an independent review of such incidents by the DOJ. The California Police Shooting Investigation Team has initiated the investigation following notification by local authorities.

Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for further review.
