A Guatemalan national, Timoteo Son-Gonzalez, has been indicted on charges of unlawful transportation of an illegal alien for financial gain and illegal re-entry after deportation. Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announced the indictment in Jacksonville, Florida. If found guilty on all counts, Son-Gonzalez could face up to 12 years in federal prison.

The indictment alleges that in February 2025, Son-Gonzalez transported an alien while being aware and disregarding the fact that the individual had entered and remained in the United States illegally. It also claims that Son-Gonzalez was unlawfully present in the U.S. following his removal in June 2024.

"An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law," stated Sweeney. "Every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty."

The case was investigated by the United States Customs and Border Patrol and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kelli Swaney.
