A federal grand jury in Boston has indicted a Dominican national, Jose Manuel Carvajal Gonzalez, on charges of unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. The indictment includes one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien against the 35-year-old Gonzalez.
According to the indictment details, Gonzalez was previously deported from the United States on February 15, 2022. The allegations suggest that he unlawfully returned to the U.S. sometime following his removal.
The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a possible fine of up to $250,000. Additionally, Gonzalez will face deportation after serving any imposed sentence. Sentencing decisions are made by a federal district court judge according to U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and applicable statutes.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney David G. Tobin from the Major Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
It is important to note that all information contained within the charging documents are allegations at this stage, and Gonzalez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
