A St. Louis man has been sentenced to two years in prison for producing and selling fraudulent identification documents. U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp delivered the sentence on Tuesday.

David B. Crosby, 28, admitted guilt in November to a charge of fraud involving identification documents. He confessed to selling stolen or fake IDs and a Social Security number through social media platforms.

In October 2023, Crosby sold a fake Missouri driver's license with a victim's name and details but another person's photograph. He also sold the victim's Social Security number to the same buyer. This information was used in an attempt to purchase a $70,000 BMW in Texas using a fraudulent loan. Additionally, Crosby tried to lease an apartment and secure a $33,000 car loan using false IDs. He acknowledged his intention to cause financial losses totaling at least $103,000.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Secret Service, the St. Charles Police Department, and the Wentzville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gwen Carroll handled the prosecution.
