Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced the appointment of Deputy Attorney General James Lloyd as Deputy Policy Director to Vice President JD Vance. In a statement, Paxton praised Lloyd's contributions: “James handled some of the most important, complex, and significant cases during his time in my office and Texas owes him a debt of gratitude for his dedicated service,” said Attorney General Paxton. “From holding Big Tech accountable to stopping major corporations from taking advantage of consumers, James has been on the front lines of upholding the rule of law and ensuring Texas leads the way. President Trump and Vice President Vance are putting together an excellent team that I am confident will make America great.”
Lloyd has served as Deputy Attorney General for Civil Litigation, overseeing eleven civil litigating divisions within the office. His previous roles include Associate Deputy Attorney General for Civil Litigation and Special Counsel to the First Assistant Attorney General. He also led the Antitrust Division, focusing on monopolization cases in digital markets.
Before joining the Attorney General’s Office, Lloyd worked at global law firms Sidley Austin LLP and Mayer Brown LLP. He clerked at the Texas Supreme Court and coordinated policymaking at the White House with senior officials across Cabinet departments and agencies. Lloyd is also an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and holds degrees from Rice University and The University of Texas School of Law.
This appointment marks Lloyd as the fifth high-ranking member from Paxton’s team to join President Donald Trump’s administration. Other appointees include Joseph Mazzara, Lanora Pettit, Ryan Baasch, and Paige Willey.
