Paul New, a 57-year-old resident of Fresno, California, has been sentenced to three years in prison. Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith announced the sentence for conspiracy to destroy property and malicious destruction by means of an explosive device.

Court documents revealed that between November 2022 and February 2023, New was involved in a series of pipe-bombings targeting unoccupied vehicles and properties in Fresno. These incidents included damage to vehicles owned by two auto-related businesses on Clinton Avenue. Additionally, on February 19, 2023, a bomb significantly damaged a vehicle used by a home health care business on Fallbrook Avenue.

Scott Eric Anderson, New's co-defendant, received a similar sentence of three years in prison on October 9, 2024.

The case was investigated by the Fresno Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael G. Tierney handled the prosecution.
