Attorney General Josh Kaul has issued a statement following a federal judge's decision to grant a preliminary injunction against the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The injunction temporarily blocks DOGE's access to confidential data from the Treasury Department.

The lawsuit, initiated by Wisconsin and 18 other states, aims to prevent unauthorized access by Elon Musk and DOGE to sensitive personal information within the Treasury Department’s central payment system. This includes bank account details and Social Security numbers. The plaintiffs argue that this access could enable Musk and his team to obstruct federal funds meant for essential services such as healthcare and childcare.

Kaul commented on the situation: “For weeks now, DOGE has sown chaos, risking lasting harm from its reckless actions. The issuance of this preliminary injunction (PI) is an important step toward mitigating the harm from this rogue agency. With this PI in effect, DOGE will continue to be prohibited from accessing confidential information held by the Treasury Department.”
