A Mexican citizen has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. The sentencing took place in Des Moines, Iowa.
Court documents reveal that Juan Carlos Solis Roan, aged 40, had been deported from the United States four times between 2008 and 2020. Solis Roan had two prior convictions for illegal reentry, including one in 2019 at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. In January 2024, law enforcement encountered Solis Roan again. By March 2024, he was convicted in the Iowa District Court for Polk County of contempt for violating his probation related to a drug conviction from 2006. It is noted that there is no parole available in the federal system.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement, specifically its Enforcement and Removal Operations division.
