Attorney General Peter F. Neronha has announced the sentencing of a Providence man involved in a gang-related shooting in 2023. Isaiah Isom, aged 20, received a sentence of 22 years, with 12 years to be served at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI), and an additional 22 years on probation. A No Contact Order was also issued between Isom and the victims.
Isom pleaded nolo contendere on February 3, 2025, to multiple charges including two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of discharge of a firearm resulting in no injury. Attorney General Neronha emphasized the impact of gun violence, stating: "So much of the violence in our state is driven by the proliferation of guns in the hands of those who are ready and willing use them."
The State had prepared to prove that Isom participated in a shooting on North Main Street in Providence on March 16, 2023. Police responded to reports of shots fired at North Main and Olney Streets where they found an unintended victim's vehicle damaged by gunfire. Investigators recovered three .40 caliber cartridge casings from the scene.
The investigation led by the Providence Police Intelligence and Organized Crime Bureau alongside ATF's Providence Field Office resulted in warrants for arrest related to this case and others linked to a known Chad Brown gang member. Text messages between Isom and this gang member discussing their involvement were uncovered.
Isom was arrested on September 12, 2023, after admitting his association with Chad Brown gang members and acknowledging his presence during the shooting incident. He also confirmed sending texts about their roles.
Providence Police Chief Oscar L. Perez commended law enforcement efforts: “I want to thank our detectives and the Attorney General’s Office for their exhaustive investigative efforts in this case.”
Special Assistant Attorneys General Edward G. Mulaney and John F. Kilpatrick (former), Detective Matthew McGloin from Providence Police Department, and Special Agent Anthony Ventetuolo from ATF were instrumental in leading both investigation and prosecution.
